Silence Day commemorates Avatar Meher Baba's 44 years of silence. On this day, always July 10, followers of Meher Baba maintain silence for 24 hours.
On the night of July 9, 1925, Meher Baba retired in seclusion in Meherabad, India. The next morning, July 10, He stepped out keeping silence. He maintained this silence 44 years until He dropped His physical on January 31, 1969.
When Meher Baba visited Meher Mount in 1956, He said, "I want you all to close your eyes for five minutes. Do not think of anything, just think of Baba." (Source: Lord Meher)
